Recent Volcano Updates from the U.S. Geological Survey Volcano Hazards Program

April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 HVO Kilauea YELLOW/ADVISORY - Kīlauea volcano is not erupting. Heightened levels of unrest continue beneath the summit ...
Apr 26, 2024 20:23 - Activity Summary:  Kīlauea volcano is not erupting. Increased seismicity over the past month indicates heightened activity beneath the summit of Kīlauea. Shallow earthquakes have also been observed beneath the upper East Rift Zone over the past several days. Updates will be provided daily while at a heightened state of unrest.Summit Observations:  Earthquake activity has increased over the past month beneath the summit of Kīlauea and south of the caldera. Activity has alternated between typical shallow, 0.5-2.5 miles (1-4 km) earthquakes beneath the south caldera ...
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 AVO Great Sitkin ORANGE/WATCH - Slow eruption of lava within the summit crater continues.
Apr 26, 2024 19:47 - The eruption of lava within the summit crater of Great Sitkin Volcano continues. Satellite radar data through April 21, 2024, showed continued advance of lava flow lobes to the northwest and continued uplift of the lava flow surface above the vent. Cloudy conditions obscured satellite and web camera views of the summit over the past week. Seismic activity was low, with occasional small volcanic earthquakes. The current prolonged period of lava eruption at Great Sitkin Volcano began in July 2021. No explosive events have occurred since a single event in May ...
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 AVO Shishaldin YELLOW/ADVISORY - Low-level unrest, characterized by elevated seismicity, continues.
Apr 26, 2024 19:47 - Low-level unrest continues at Shishaldin Volcano, with occasional small volcanic earthquakes and weak seismic tremor being observed throughout the week. Sulfur dioxide emissions were detected on April 19 and 20 with satellite-based sensors, but no ash emissions or new deposits were observed in satellite data. Weak steam emissions were occasionally seen in webcam views when the summit was clear. No changes at Shishaldin's summit were observed in satellite radar data, but minor rock falls associated with collapse events from the unstable ground in and near the summit ...
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 CVO Cascade Range GREEN/NORMAL - All volcanoes are at normal levels.
Apr 26, 2024 19:46 - Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range of Oregon and Washington are at normal background activity levels. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State and Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry, and Crater Lake in Oregon.Past Week Observations: During the past week, small earthquakes were detected at Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Rainier. All monitoring data are consistent with background activity levels in the Cascades Range.
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 CALVO GREEN/NORMAL - CA volcanoes were at normal background levels of seismicity and deformation during the past week.
Apr 24, 2024 12:48 - Monitored CALIFORNIA VOLCANOESCurrent Volcano Alert Level: all NORMALCurrent Aviation Color Code: all GREENActivity Update: All volcanoes monitored by CalVO show normal background earthquake activity and ground movement. Monitored volcanoes include Mount Shasta, Medicine Lake Volcano, Lassen Volcanic Center, Clear Lake Volcanic Field, Long Valley Volcanic Region, Coso Volcanic Field, Ubehebe Craters, and Salton Buttes.Past Week Observations for April 15, 2024 (0000h PDT) to April 21, 2024 (2359h PDT)One earthquake greater than M1 was recorded near the Lassen Volcanic ...
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 NMI Ahyi Seamount UNASSIGNED/UNASSIGNED - Nothing noteworthy was observed in the vicinity of Ahyi seamount.
Apr 11, 2024 23:06 - No activity was observed in satellite views of the Ahyi Seamount area over the past week. Likewise, AVO received no definitive hydroacoustic detections of submarine volcanic activity. Because of the apparent lack of activity, the Aviation Color Code and Volcano Alert Level for Ahyi Seamount were lowered to UNASSIGNED on April 9, 2024.There are no local monitoring stations near Ahyi Seamount, which limits our ability to detect and characterize volcanic unrest there. We will continue to monitor available remote underwater pressure sensors, and seismic and satellite data ...
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 AVO Atka volcanic complex GREEN/NORMAL - Activity has returned to background levels; Aviation Color Code and Alert ...
Apr 9, 2024 15:34 - Volcanic activity at the Atka volcanic complex has decreased since a small explosion was detected from the summit crater of Korovin, one of several volcanoes there, on March 27 (AKDT). Although occasional small earthquakes and weak volcanic tremor continue to be observed, the current activity is at background levels. Due to this decrease in activity, the Alaska Volcano Observatory is lowering the Aviation Color Code and Volcano Alert Level to GREEN/NORMAL.
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 AVO Spurr GREEN/NORMAL - Conditions at Mount Spurr volcano have improved and AVO is receiving data from earthquake and ...
Apr 5, 2024 00:30 - Conditions at Mount Spurr volcano have improved and AVO is receiving data from earthquake monitoring stations and a remote web camera at the volcano 120 km (75 miles) west of Anchorage. Data are now sufficient to establish the state of the volcano. As a result, the Aviation Color Code and Volcano Alert Level are changed to GREEN/NORMAL. Summary A thick winter snowpack prevented data transmission from seismic stations on Mount Spurr volcano to AVO in Anchorage. Conditions on the volcano have improved recently. In addition, following work at the Anchorage receive facility ...
April 27th, 2024 04:28:36 EDT -0400 HVO Mauna Loa GREEN/NORMAL - No significant changes at Mauna Loa in the past month; inflation of the summit continues.
Apr 4, 2024 18:20 - Seismicity beneath Mauna Loa's summit and upper-elevation flanks has been relatively low over the past month; approximately 31 small-magnitude earthquakes (below M3.0) were detected, which is expected for the post-eruption phase of this volcano. There were approximately 12 earthquakes deeper than 8 mi (13 km).Data from Global Positioning System (GPS) instruments on Mauna Loa, record a very slight inflationary trend as the volcano recovers from the 2022 eruption, and magma begins to replenish the reservoir system. Gas and temperature data from a station on Mauna Loa' ...
